Has the suckiness of rally driving been given enough post time here? If not, I'd like to provide another thread to lament this crappy aspect to the game.

Five second penalty? Fine if it's my fault. But when a crappy Starion with dirt tires bumps my rear quarter when I have the inside line and I get penalized, I wanna throw my DS2.

I still have five of these to complete, the dirt/ice ones are a real pain.

Left to do:

- Normal Grand Canyon
- Normal Chamonix
- Hard Grand Canyon
- Hard Ice Arena
- Hard Chamonix

Any clues as to what a good car to use for these is, I'd appreciate hearing.

I've used the Lancia Delta S4 Rally Car '85 so far, fully modified.

I used one of the Subaru Rally cars. I believe the 2001 car. And it was way frichen hard. I'm not happy at all with how I had to drive to achieve those wins. Ever time I drove like I would in the real world, taking the turns at what seems to be the correct velocities, the A.I. would simply walk away, opening up seconds each sector. I had to use wallbanging, and A.I. blocking of the most car smashing sort just to keep the car behind. And that was using a fully modded Subaru for a 1 point race. I don't know if I'm suddenly very terrible at these new tracks, or the A.I. have some extra grip going on, but that was the only way I could keep up with them.

I'll shake the hand of the guy who can win those races cleanly. I'm in front, braking hard, the AI rear-ends me, and I get a fewkin' penalty. But remember, you can only get one penalty at a time--they aren't cumulative--so spend your 5 bloody seconds blocking the bejeezus out of the other car. Pin him to the wall, punt him into a spin, or whatever it takes to keep him behind you. I only do that when I've been unfairly penalized, but it's the only way I can win some of them.

I can't help you, Bob. I have the same ones incomplete. Seems the cars with enough power don't have the traction to use it, and the controllable cars can't keep up. I expect I'll get the Ice Arena and Chamonix done eventually, but the GC is probably beyond my ability.

I think the AI's TCS must go all the way to 20.

Are you able to use TCS with your cars? I'm not. I turn it on, but the TCS light is always blank and lifeless.

I reccomend you stay away from the overpowered Group B cars. I found the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Super Rally Car and the Evo 6 Rally Car to be extremely good options. The rally physics are far different than they were in GT3, but they are extremely fun to drive in, in my opinion!

Fun to drive, yes. I would agree with that. Fun to race against the A.I. with, no. I wouldn't agree with that.

I managed to get a win at Grand Canyon (easy and hard) with the Impreza Rally prototype.

Before I was using the Peugeot 205 RC, and while very fast, it was a heavy little toboggan. The Impreza was much more nimble and responsive.

The problem is you have to know these tracks by heart. You have to be on the top of your game.

Very true. The AI not only uses heavy rubberband AI while in Special Conditions events, but they give you penalties at their fault!

Do you mean like in reality ?

Of course rally drivers don't know ALL of the WRC tracks by heart, but to make amends, they use pace-notes, with a detailed describtion of every single corner, kink, bend, surface, distance, hump, etc ...

I remember that, when i played McRae, or WRC before, the pace-notes came too late. Or maybe i was too darn fast for the game.

I mean in order to win at Hard Grand Canyon reverse, you really, really, really gotta know Grand Canyon reverse. And not only do I not know it, I don't wanna know it.

I know, I know, stop whining and quit being so lazy. I can't help it, it's in my nature. Don't judge, just hold me. :D

You can run along most of the walls at full throttle if you make a smooth contact. :D
Try something like the Subaru super touring car and Zoom round those hairpins. ( and the wide line keeps you away from the ai. 8) )
Dont brake for the long bends , drop a gear as you try to blend in to the barrier and run the walls
You can go back and learn it properly when you feel like it .

Good luck 8)

 looks like the GT1 hotlap tips transfer well to GT4 rally
